The small town of Tregaron is approximately 18 miles south of the coastal resort town of Aberystwyth and 11 miles north of the University town of Lampeter.  It nestles at the foot of the Cambrian Mountains and is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in Britain.  Ffair Caron, that is still held each year on the last bank holiday in May, received its Royal Charter in 1292.

A few miles north of Tregaron are the remains of Strata Florida Abbey founded in the 12th century by the Cistercian monks

For those who like walking there are many footpaths and trails around the town and the surrounding countryside. For long distance walkers there's the Cambrian Way or why not explore some of the 60 mile Ceredigion coastal path. Where you stand a good chance of seeing bottlenose dolphins, porpoise and grey seals. The Cambrian Mountains Cors Caron National Nature Reserve Cors Caron (The Red Bog) is a National Nature Reserve and is located just outside Tregaron.  It is a haven for all types of birds and wildlife especially the Red Kite.  There are well marked footways around the Reserve and hides from where you can study the birds and animals.     

 

River Teifi The whole area surrounding Tregaron is well known for its fishing, with the river teifi being famous for its river brown trout and salmon.  Just outside Tregaron are the Teifi Pools and Llyn Berwyn where there are brown trout.  River Brenig

 

Within  a short drive there are some lovely sandy beaches where the whole family can enjoy a dip and many picnic areas and woods for the children to explore
